Building automation and BMS – programming, integration and commissioning

We program and commission control and monitoring systems for buildings and infrastructure: ventilation, room climate control, lighting, energy metering and technical safety functions – with experience from one of Sweden’s largest museums and a Stockholm ferry terminal.

What does Robsonus do in building automation?

Robsonus AB is a Stockholm-based automation consultancy that programs, integrates and commissions Building Management Systems (BMS) – based on the control schematics (in Swedish: driftkort) and functional descriptions. We work with PLC-based HVAC control (including Mitsubishi and Siemens), room climate control, DALI lighting control and energy metering via M-Bus and Modbus – and connect it all to HMI panels, supervisory SCADA systems and web-based dashboards. We work directly for property owners and as a subcontractor to installation contractors and system integrators.

Common situations we help with

  • A new build or refurbishment needs its control systems programmed to the control schematics (driftkort) and commissioned on schedule
  • An installer or system integrator needs extra PLC, HMI and SCADA programming capacity
  • Ventilation, heating and lighting run on fixed schedules regardless of actual occupancy
  • Energy meters are installed, but the readings never reach a system where anyone sees them
  • Control systems from different vendors need to talk to each other
  • The original supplier is gone and the program code is undocumented
  • Tenants, insurers or NIS2 are imposing new security requirements on the building’s control systems

Services

What we deliver

From control schematics (driftkort) and functional description to a commissioned, documented installation.

  • Ventilation, heating and cooling (HVAC) control
  • Room control of temperature, humidity and CO₂
  • Lighting control via DALI
  • Energy metering via M-Bus and Modbus
  • Calendar-based operating schedules combined with PID control for energy optimisation
  • Integration with technical safety functions and visitor counting
  • Supervisory SCADA system for the building in Ignition or Siemens WinCC – with alarm management, trending and historian
  • Integration of substations and PLCs from different vendors into one supervisory system via Modbus and OPC UA
  • HMI panels (Beijer, Mitsubishi, Siemens) for local operation in the substations
  • Migration of legacy control systems and SCADA – e.g. Siemens S5/Step 7 to TIA Portal or Citect to Ignition – with operational continuity during the transition
  • BMS dashboards, web-based visualisation and secure remote access for operations and facility management
  • Commissioning, functional testing and documentation

    Handover and support

Documentation, knowledge transfer to your team and support after commissioning.

Technologies

Systems and technologies

We are vendor-independent and work with the equipment already in the building.

PLCs and distributed I/O

Mitsubishi PLC (GX Works), Siemens S7/TIA Portal, CODESYS and WAGO – from a single substation to installations with a dozen PLCs and distributed I/O.

Field devices and control

Experience with controllers and components from Regin and Schneider, Vacon variable-frequency drives, and lighting control with WAGO and DALI.

Communication

Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP, M-Bus for energy metering, and TCP/IP and OPC UA towards supervisory systems.

Visualisation and supervisory systems

HMI panels from Beijer, Mitsubishi and Siemens (TIA Portal/WinCC), and SCADA in Ignition and Siemens WinCC – with alarms, trends, history and web-based BMS dashboards.

Connected buildings need OT security

Once control systems are connected for remote monitoring, they become part of the attack surface. We separate the building network from the office network, restrict communication paths and secure remote access in line with IEC 62443 – from the start, not as an afterthought. With NIS2, more organisations need to show how their building control systems are protected too.

Experience

Reference projects

Buildings with demanding requirements for climate, safety and operation. These projects were delivered before Robsonus was founded – Robert Wszolek was responsible for programming and commissioning the control systems as an automation engineer at a system integrator.

Museum – one of Sweden’s largest and most important

  • 13 climate zones with control of temperature, humidity and CO₂
  • 12 PLCs (Mitsubishi) programmed and commissioned
  • Energy metering via M-Bus and Modbus
  • Integration with technical safety functions and visitor flows – the climate in each zone was matched to occupancy and each exhibition’s requirements

Ferry terminal and port infrastructure

  • Ventilation control and room climate control for the entire terminal
  • Lighting control (WAGO/DALI) and the port’s technical infrastructure
  • Distributed I/O system controlled via Mitsubishi PLC
  • Energy metering via M-Bus and Modbus
  • Energy optimisation with calendar-based scheduling and PID control

FAQ

Common technical questions

Do you program from our control schematics (driftkort)?

Yes. We program and commission the controls based on the control schematics (driftkort) and functional descriptions drawn up by the consulting engineer.

Do you work as a subcontractor to installers and system integrators?

Yes. We work both directly for property owners and as a subcontractor to installation contractors and system integrators – with PLC and HMI programming, integration and commissioning.

Which systems and protocols do you work with in buildings?

We are vendor-independent. We program Mitsubishi PLCs and Siemens S7 in TIA Portal, have commissioned installations with distributed I/O, worked with equipment from Regin, Schneider, Vacon and WAGO, DALI lighting control, and communication via Modbus RTU/TCP, M-Bus, TCP/IP and OPC UA.

How does building automation reduce energy use?

By running ventilation, heating and lighting according to actual demand: calendar-based schedules combined with PID control, per-zone room control, and energy metering via M-Bus and Modbus that makes consumption visible.

Can a building’s control system be monitored remotely in a secure way?

Yes. We separate the building network from the office network, restrict communication paths and secure remote access in line with IEC 62443.
