Why Ignition?
In Sweden, Ignition is not yet as common as established systems such as WinCC, AVEVA (formerly Citect and Wonderware) or iFIX. Here is why we choose it for new projects anyway:
- Ignition Standard: per-server licensing, not per tag or client – often a lower total cost when scaling. Licence scope depends on the modules and architecture chosen
- Built-in drivers for many common PLC families and databases, plus OPC UA for the rest – without third-party middleware
- The same platform scales from a single machine to a facility with multiple gateways

Perspective vs Vision – which module fits your facility?
Perspective
Web-based, responsive interface that runs in any browser – desktop, tablet or mobile, with no installation on the client side. On operator stations, the same project can run as a standalone app (Perspective Workstation), without the browser address bar and across multiple monitors. We recommend Perspective as the default choice for new projects: one project reaches the control room, a tablet in the field and a phone, login can be tied to the company identity provider (SSO), and the interface is built on web technology (HTML5, CSS, React) – screens are built from reusable components, and custom stylesheets and components can be integrated.
Vision
The original, Java-based client interface in Ignition. Stable and well-proven. We use Vision primarily to extend and maintain existing installations where switching to Perspective isn't justified on cost or time grounds.

An unsecured Ignition Gateway is a production and operational risk, not just an IT issue. We harden Ignition installations in line with IEC 62443 principles: network segmentation, access control and authenticated, encrypted remote access to the Gateway and clients – built in from the start.

Common technical questions
Perspective or Vision for a new facility?
Perspective – it runs in any browser, including tablets and phones, with no client-side installation. We mainly use Vision to extend existing installations where a switch is not justified.
How is Ignition licensed?
Ignition Standard is licensed per server, not per tag or client – often a lower total cost as the plant grows. The licence scope depends on the chosen modules and system architecture – we help you choose and with the purchase. For individual machines and field devices there is Ignition Edge: a lower-cost licence with unlimited tags and devices, but at most two concurrent clients, 35 days of local history and no database connectivity – often connected to a central Ignition server.
Can Ignition communicate with our existing PLCs?
Yes. Ignition has built-in drivers for many common PLC families and databases, plus OPC UA for the rest – without third-party middleware. We integrate with Siemens, Mitsubishi, OPC UA and Modbus TCP/RTU.
Can you migrate Vision to Perspective, or WinCC/Citect to Ignition?
Yes, both. We map tags, alarms, history and visualisation, and plan the transition for operational continuity with a documented rollback plan.
Can you take over an Ignition installation from another integrator?
Yes. Support, troubleshooting and further development of existing Ignition installations are part of what we deliver – including when documentation is missing.
