Ignition SCADA – development, integration and support

We build and migrate SCADA systems on Ignition – a platform where the licence follows the server, not the number of tags or clients.
In Sweden it is still less widespread than established systems such as WinCC, AVEVA (formerly Citect and Wonderware) or iFIX – we work with Ignition in both new installations and migrations of older SCADA systems.

Robsonus is listed in Inductive Automation's official integrator directory and is a certified partner of Autic, Ignition's Nordic distributor.

Common situations we help with

  • Ignition has already been chosen, but there's no integrator covering the whole platform – Gateway configuration, Perspective/Vision interface, database connectivity and script programming
  • The Vision application is difficult to maintain and a move to Perspective is being considered
  • The tag structure lacks UDTs and becomes hard to scale as the facility grows
  • The Ignition Gateway needs to be made more resilient or extended with redundancy
  • Historian and reporting on SQL databases need to be set up or troubleshot
  • Documentation and knowledge are missing after a previous integrator moved on

Perspective vs Vision – which module fits your facility?

Perspective

Web-based, responsive interface that runs in any browser – desktop, tablet or mobile, with no installation on the client side. We recommend Perspective as the default choice for new projects: it's the module Inductive Automation actively continues to develop, with support for mobile and tablet in addition to standard displays.

Vision

The original, Java-based client interface in Ignition. Still stable and well-proven, but without active development of new features. We use Vision primarily to extend and maintain existing installations where switching to Perspective isn't justified on cost or time grounds.

Perspective Vision
Interface Browser (HTML5) Java client
Client-side installation No (browser) Yes (Ignition Launcher)
Mobile-friendly Yes No
Active development Yes Maintenance only
Suited for New projects, mobile access Existing Vision installations

What we deliver

  • New installation – architecture, servers and tag structure (UDT), screen design in Perspective
  • Integration with PLC (Siemens, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff, OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU) and SQL databases for historian and reporting
  • Migration from Vision to Perspective, or from legacy SCADA systems (WinCC, AVEVA/Citect, Wonderware, iFIX) to Ignition
  • Production data, traceability and reporting built directly in Ignition (Tag Historian, SQL) without third-party modules – full MES functionality may require additional development or specialised modules
  • Support, troubleshooting and further development of existing Ignition installations

OT security in Ignition environments

An unsecured Ignition Gateway is a production and operational risk, not just an IT issue. We harden Ignition installations in line with IEC 62443 principles: network segmentation, access control and authenticated, encrypted remote access to the Gateway and clients – built in from the start.

  • Network segmentation, access control and event logging in line with IEC 62443 principles
  • Authenticated, encrypted remote access to the Ignition Gateway, Perspective and Vision

Why Ignition?

  • Per-server licensing, not per tag or client – often a lower total cost when scaling. Licence scope depends on the modules and architecture chosen
  • Built-in drivers for many common PLC families and databases, plus OPC UA for the rest – without third-party middleware
  • The same platform scales from a single machine to a facility with multiple gateways
